Kites, Cakes and Eggs

E-mail Print PDF

Keegan finding Easter eggsOh what a busy weekend we had!  We started Saturday by hunting garage sales.  It is still very early in what we call the "garage sale season", but we had fun driving around.

Then we went to our church, Hermitage Church of the Nazarene, for Kite Day.  This was the 27th annual Kite Day held at our church, and it was a beautiful day for flying kites.  We quickly setup our kite, which had a picture of Batman, and launched it into the air.  Keegan was so excited to see the string unravel and the kite take off.  This is about the time his excitement for the kite ended.  I handed him the handle and pointed in the air complimenting him on how well he was doing.  Then he decided to see how fast I could run.  He let go and pointed to the kite yelling "DADDY! DADDY! DADDY!" as I took off running as fast as I could to catch the now uncontrolled kite.  As I mentioned his attention to the kite was waning and he quickly took Natalie to the playground.  How loves a slide and the slide at church is super fast.

Sunday started by going to church to see a musical drama called "One Voice."  Then after Keegan's nap he helped Natalie make a desert for dinner at church.  Keegan, as you may know, loves to help Natalie cook.  This time was a little different because Keegan was wearing an apron made by his great-grandmother Nana.  He was not quite sure what to think of it at first.  He generally takes a moment to analyze new things like foods, places, people and even clothes.  But after a fewKeegan Cooking moments he was thrilled to wear it and just as thrilled to be cooking.  The cake Natalie was making was her famous Candy Bar Cake, but this time instead of candy bars in the icing she used Oreos.  You can see in the picture Keegan was a big help.  In this picture he is helping Natalie add the Cool-Whip into the mixer.  I want to let everyone know two things.  First, we washed Keegan's hands before letting him near any of the food.  Second, there are pictures of Keegan covered in icing and I just wanted to note that the cake was finished and boxed by that point.

Finally, we went back to church for dinner and the annual Easter Egg Hunt.  There were lots and lots of kids filled with the excitement brought on by the knowledge that there were thousands of CANDY FILLED eggs.  With a little drizzle and lots of laughter and joy the kids took to the grass and field hunting those brightly colored eggs.  I promise you that while we were hunting these eggs we were filled with the joy of the TRUE meaning of Easter.  We are blessed that God would send His son to live and suffer among us.  It is with His grace we will be able to enter His Kingdom.

God's Blessings be upon you,
Philip

P.S.: The busy weekend turned into a busy week.  It is now Saturday of the next weekend and I am just now finishing this.  My, how time gets away from me.  Tomorrow is Easter.  Let us CELEBRATE!!!
